University Introduction
The University of Melbourne, located in Melbourne, Victoria, was established in 1853. It is the second oldest university in Australia and the oldest in Victoria. The University is one of the six sandstone universities in Australia and a member of the prestigious Group of Eight. It is also part of Universitas 21, the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, and the Association of East Asian Research Universities. Together with Monash University and RMIT University, it is known as one of the "Big Three"
in Melbourne, regarded as one of the finest higher education institutions in Australia. The University of Melbourne consistently ranks within the top 40 universities worldwide across the four major university rankings, making it a leading institution in the Asia-Pacific region.
